Ivančice is a historic town which long enjoyed the epithet “royal”. Geologically, it lies at the confluence of three rivers (the Jihlava, Oslava and Rokytná Rivers, which then continue as the Jihlava River), which gives the environs a picturesqueness which few areas in our republic can equal. Historically, it lies at the intersection of three trade routes. This has formed Ivančice both positively and negatively over the centuries and up to the present. The positive aspects of this intersection involve the fact that all of the caravans and merchants stopped in Ivančice and brought wealth to the town which manifested itself in the way the town flourished. Unfortunately, all of the troops and armies passing through Moravia and the Czech lands also stopped here.

The town is exceptional due to its historical tolerance towards individual religious groups. It was home to Christians, Protestants, Czech Brethren, Swiss Brethren, Jews and Habans, who gave the individual parts of the town their specific appearances which can still be admired today. The town is home to the place where the Bible of Kralice was created, a Jewish cemetery, monuments from the Habanian settlements and Christian monuments in the form of the town hall, the family home of Alfons Mucha (the former town hall and court building), the old Chapel of St. James which towers above the town or the interestingly placed Chapel of the Holy Trinity.

The view of the town and the meanders of the picturesque River Jihlava can be enjoyed from two lookout points. One of them is the Alfons Mucha Lookout Tower which is part of the nature park in Réna, a newly reconstructed venue for rest and relaxation. The second such place is the lookout pavilion on Okliky, which offers a comprehensive view of the town and the natural beauty in its environs.

f you are tired of views and monuments, you can refresh yourself with a glass of Ivančice wine, because Ivančice is one of the northernmost located winemaking municipalities in the world. This gives the local wine an unmistakeable character. Wine also features in its coat of arms where there are 3 gold wine cups on a blue field.

The best-known native of Ivančice in the Czech Republic is probably Vladimír Menšík, a brilliant actor and entertainer. The art nouveau artist, Alphonse Mucha, is an internationally renowned native of the town. Both of these natives have a permanent exhibition at the Alphonse Mucha Monument, which you can visit on weekdays and during the weekend.

If you intend to come to Ivančice and are looking for a suitable date, we would definitely recommend that you time your visit for May. Not only because Ivančice is surrounded by cherry orchards which you will be able to enjoy at their best in that month, but also because the traditional asparagus celebrations take place in May (in 2014, they will take place from 23rd to 25th May). If you are a lover of this traditional Ivančice delicacy, you are sure to find something to whet your appetite. The restaurants and stands on the square offer asparagus specialities, there is a permanent cultural program in the centre and the delicacy is also sold fresh.

The events of the Concentus Moraviae Festival will take place at two interesting venues. The first will be in the newly reconstructed courtyard of the historical town hall and the current seat of the Municipal Authority in Ivančice. The recent reconstruction of this interesting area has created an enclosed courtyard with herb gardens and areas for holding events such as concerts, theatrical performances, children’s days and so on. It has interesting acoustics and it is an inspiring environment for moments of rest and relaxation. The second concert will take place in one of the architectonic jewels of Ivančice, the Beseda House - a beautiful hotel built in the Art Nouveau style.
