The term baroque music refers to most people to stupendously serious compositions but just as important is the joyful and humorous side of it. Composers as Johann Heinrich Schmelzer or Heinrich Ignaz Franz Biber loved to hide puns in their music that would bring a smile to their audience, for example by the imitation of animal sounds or even imitating the sounds heard in a fencing academy. Meret Lüthi, founder of the baroque orchestra Les passions de l’Ame, loves to highlight these pranks. Be prepared for baroque wit of the highest level.
