Vienna at the turn of the 18th and 19th centuries was a city of famous musicians, something that Metternich was counting on when the congress of European nations was held there in 1814–15. Many important composers came to Vienna for the great counterpoint of Johann Georg Albrechtsberger, whose legacy was honoured by Mozart in his Fantasia in F minor. In Vienna, no one was surprised that Austrian musician Sigismund von Neukomm continued to serve the French negotiator even in the tense political situation, because composing is the best weapon of diplomacy! Haydn could afford to imitate the mechanical organ with live players. Romantic composer Vratislav Adolf Friedrich Hesse shared Vienna's passion for Bach's music, so much so that he earned the nickname Silesian Bach. The Dresden composer Gustav A. Merkel combined respect for counterpoint à la Bach and Albrechtsberger with romantic virtuosity and the power of a great organ sound. In Třebíč, all these colours and contrasts will be in the hands of two distinctive young organists.
