MILOSLAV IŠTVAN QUARTETT

Miloslav Ištvan Quartett

Program:

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart: Adagio and fugue in C minor

LeošJanáček: String Quartet No. 1, “Kreutzer Sonata”

MiloslavIštvan: First string quartet

Josef Suk: Meditation On The Old Czech Hymn St. Wencelas, Op. 35

While the progressive MiloslavIštvan Quartet focuses primarily on contemporary classical music, in their renditions older music also brings pleasure to listeners. It will present Mozart's "Bach" fugue at the festival evening, followed by Janáček's String Quartet No. 1 (the "Kreutzer Sonata"), his shortest and most tragic musical drama. The 69-year-old composer was invited to compose the piece by a Czech quartet and conceptually touched upon Tolstoy's famous novella. There will also be music by the legend of the Czech musical avant-garde of the second half of the 20th century, whose name the quartet bears, and the finale of the concert will be truly Czech. In 1914, Josef Suk created his famous Meditation as his contribution to the strengthening of patriotic pride. Although allegedly composed in just two hours, this composition is among the composer's most performed pieces.
