The opening concert of Concentus Moraviae is a true exhibition of humor in symphonic music and a kind of summary of the whole festival. Of course it starts with the main “tune” of the festival, Antonín Dvořák‘s well-known seventh Humoresque. After that conductor Marko Ivanović leads us through the “joke called everyday life” with the Parade ballet by Erik Satie. The behaviour of the audience is challenged too by a coughing concerto and the infamous piece 4’33 by John Cage. With Dvořák’s Scherzo capriccioso and Beethoven’s Scherzo from his Third Symphony the concert concludes by stating that humor in music can be written with capital H.
